Door signs - sword makers

The art department team asked me to do some writing on the doors.

Shops in Edo era, they often have front doors as shop signs.

They meant to be sword makers house in the village where 47 tried to gather some weapons.

My brush wasn't big enough. So I did like lettering - making thick line thicker with making lines over it. Hardest was to see the balance of whole. I'm not satisfied with both but it looks ok when they fit into the house....

And some more doors for the houses in the same village.

They are making some decorations on the swords or accessaries or sharpening them.

They are fiber screen thingy that looks like paper but water-proof and I used house paint.

Kai did some sword fighting in front of those houses so they are some good shots in the film.

We also decorated inside of the sword makers house.
It was very interesting to research about them - a sort of ritual they used to be. And there are some gorgeous sword itself and amazing decorations on the accessaries. V&A museum has some excellent collections display.

We needed a lots of tools but also the altar. It is the Shinto altar which they have a god of fire mainly and also the god of business or family.

We did not have or could not find the alter itself so we decided to make it as a hanging scroll - representing a god.

I measured the space, back to prop room, picked up an old scroll which is the right length. Strip off the broken old painting, write the name of the fire god, pasted and they aged it.

With some more decorations - salt, water, two greens on the sides - on the shelve beneath. Shame the camera didn't pick up that scene.
