Bon ji - Sanskrit Characters

Many of us (Japanese) knew they're all going to do ‘seppuku’, the honored way for samurai to kill themselves. We needed some research. But no books on shelves, only online search didn't help me much. But came across one day an article about the stage setting they used to do. They said ‘they put four posts with cloths with letterings on’. What were they used say on those cloths?

Some more research and emailing people, we've got conclusion that they could be Sanskrit.
You can still see many of those five stories tower in temples. They represent Sky, Wind, Fire, Water and Earth from top, each has different Sanskrit characters. And those changes depends on the directions - North, South, East and West.
(forgive me for the poor explanation)

I have worked on a commission before using these characters I knew how to do them. Size decided, cloths decided, let's see which widths
flat brush I should use...

Also tried with round brush but they preferred flat ones.

On the set I wanted to find North so that I could put these on the right corners...

But we were not filming any historic documentary here at least.
