Flags for soldiers - hata sasi mono

Hata means flags in Japanese.

When I heard the word of hata-sasimono I haven't got a clue what that means.
Sasi is sasu, which also means wearing something and mono is stuff.
Flag wearing stuff?

The soldiers on a horses (also often but not always foot soldiers) wore their team flags on the battle fields so that they could tell each other. They look fairly big to carry on ones back but exciting as well.

For the scene of team fighting (when Kai fought with monster soldier) , we needed to make a lots of banners, flags and these mobile flags on backs.

They normally feature the clans mark or court of arms.
When you look at their designs there were many sophisticated ones too. Very interesting designs.

I thought there might be some lettering ones too so made some sketches to show my team mates.

But we ran out times. Thousands of flags and banners we had to make, everyone who wasn't too busy, even from the other team anyone can paint a bit had to do some paintings.

But the scene set looked amazing in the end with this many flags.

Something this flags moves my / our hearts - when the fishing ships come back with good result, they put flags for showing off and celebrate still now. You can see many flags along side the way to the concert halls, Kabuki theatres or Sumo theatre. I don't know what but maybe something to do with colours dancing with winds...
