More lanterns...for Dejima & brothel scenes.

After Kai was deported from Ako, he became a sort of fighting slave at Dejima where the only place they can freely trade to over seas - mainly with Dutch. 

We decided to have lanterns there, on the shore it says Japan and the other side (ships) it says Dutch.

Here are some suggestions

Designer went for the letters inside of the circle strokes.

The original lanterns are all shipped from Japan, they were all vinyl made. 

Painter painted base colour to make them old and I painted circles and letters.

There are some more lanterns which were longer ones above the fighting scene where Oishi had to fight with half mad Kai. 

And there was a set of brothel over there, too.

Here is the example of them,,, from wood print from Edo era.

And from that, below was my suggestions.

Designer wanted them to say more sexy stuff rather than just a name of the hotel.

So we went for the two letters - joy and play.

With some gold leaf squares and black circle on sides. 

This is not lantern at all but I guess its red and round, too... Origami octopus which was loved by everyone passing my desk.
